Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who’s leaving Congress to run for Minnesota attorney general, is facing accusations of domestic abuse from his ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan, an environmental activist.

The allegations came to light last week after her the son Austin accused the progressive lawmakers of physical and mentally abusive behavior.

“I was using my moms computer trying to download something and I clicked on a file, I found over 100 text and twitters messages and video almost 2 min long that showed Keith Ellison dragging my mama off the bed by her feet, screaming and calling her a ‘f*cking bitch’ and telling her to get the fuck out of his house,” Austin Aslim Monahan wrote in part on Facebook.

Monahan herself says the allegations are true.

Ellison denied them in a statement Sunday, claiming that “This video does not exist because I never behaved this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.”

“You know this is true,” Monahan reportedly said in response. “You know what you did.”

“When he [Austin] put that out, and I stand with him… He had to sit and stay silent,” Monahan said of her son, according to Think Progress. “It’s become about, ‘she needs to prove, prove, prove.’”

. “‘I know what you did to my mom. You’re not the man I thought you were.’” It wasn’t until after Ellison reached out to Monahan and inquired about her son’s text, she claims, that her son confronted her about what he saw.”

Now, Monahan’s friends are reportedly saying that she reached out to them to talk about the abuse.

Three of Monahan’s friends reportedly told CNN that she spoke to them about Ellison’s abuse. However, the video has not been made public and text messages released do not show evidence of such conduct.
