First lady Melania Trump made her first public appearance in weeks following her being in the hospital due to a kidney surgery.

And now a new report from PEOPLE , which references the upcoming book “First in Line: Presidents, Vice Presidents and the Pursuit of Powe” is revealing more details about Melania’s role inside the White House and during the 2016 campaign.

During a 2016 meeting where the president was deciding who was going to be his vice president, Melania insisted that it has to be someone who is “clean,” meaning no affairs or personal baggage.

The first lady was standing by Pence’s side because she saw the need to balance out her husband’s life. And she thought that Pence was the right man, who according to her, had “no skeletons” in his closet.

“That meant no affairs and no messy financial entanglements. In short, it meant no drama. She realized her husband had enough of that already,” uthor Kate Andersen Brower writes.

And on Wednesday, President Trump complained about the speculations and fake stories about Melania’s absence.

“The Fake News Media has been so unfair, and vicious, to my wife and our great First Lady, Melania. During her recovery from surgery they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. (and me) for N.Y. or Virginia, to abuse. All Fake, she is doing really well!” He tweeted.

“Four reporters spotted Melania in the White House last week walking merrily along to a meeting. They never reported the sighting because it would hurt the sick narrative that she was living in a different part of the world, was really ill, or whatever. Fake News is really bad!”
