President Trump on Wednesday commuted the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson following an appeal from Kim Kardashian.
Johnson is a nonviolent drug offender who’s been serving a life sentence in Alabama after being convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine and money laundering in 1996.
She was overcome with emotion following her release but gave a press conference to the national media to talk about her newfound freedom.
The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories. Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget.

“I want to say to President Trump, I am going to make you proud that you gave me this second chance in life. And I will not disappoint the American public or the world that has so much faith in me. All I can say is Thank you, President Trump. And I love you, President Trump! Thank you,” Johnson said.
“And I want to tell Kim, my angel, that you never gave up on me. You never gave up your fight. You were relentless. And it paid off beautifully for me and my family on this day.”
