Cynthia Nixon, the actress known best for playing Miranda on HBO’s “Sex and the City”, confirmed on Twitter that she’s mounting a primary challenge to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

“I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor. Join us: http://bit.ly/gocynthia,” Nixon tweeted.

However, Cuomo is up on Nixon 66 percent to 19 percent among New York Democrats, according to a Siena College poll, suggesting that despite her celebrity she still has relatively low name ID.

Nixon, 51, has been a progressive activist on the state, focusing on issues like education.
