Following the news that former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon has stepped down from his position as chairman of Breitbart News, Fox News has released a statement about whether or not it plans to hire him
Bannon, who has been chairman of the right-wing news publication since 2012, announced Tuesday he would be stepping down from his position after bombshell comments lambasting the president’s family in Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury”
Fox officials say they want to keep their distance from Bannon moving forward.
“Fox News will not be hiring Steve Bannon,” a network spokesperson said, according to TV Newser.
The spokesperson also told TV Newser that many top Fox officials already have a negative relationship with the former outspoken media owner, including executive chairman of 21st Century Fox Rupert Murdoch and former Fox News Channel chairman Roger Ailes.
In the book, Bannon is credited with discussing in detail President Donald Trump’s time in office, his personal life, and many controversial and questionable interactions.
Wolff discussed Bannon’s lack of friends within the media and the White House, including his repeated bashing of the president himself and his mental fitness, which lead to him leaving after just six months in Washington and now resigning from his own company.
“Bannon collected enemies,” Wolff wrote of the former Breitbart chairman, claiming his relationships with many at Fox have done him no favors.
“Few fueled his savagery and rancor toward the standard-issue Republican world as much as Rupert Murdoch–not least because Murdoch had Donald Trump’s ear. It was one of the key elements of Bannon’s understanding of Trump: the last person Trump spoke to ended up with enormous influence,” Wolff wrote.
One of the relationships Wolff discusses is with Murdoch, saying how Bannon repeatedly tried to destroy Trump’s relationship with the Fox mogul, calling the Australian-born shareholder un-American.
Bannon’s next career path is uncertain, and he has yet to release any details on his future.
