Steve Bannon is departing as chairman of Breitbart News after the fallout from comments he allegedly made about President Trump and family to author Michael Wolff that led to a heavy backlash.

Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a smooth transition, the company’s chief executive, Larry Solov, said in a statement.

In the statement, Mr. Bannon added that he was “proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform.”

The New York Times reported that Bannon was forced out by billionaire Breitbart investor Rebekah Mercer, who recently cut ties with the former White House adviser.
