Fired conservative Google engineer says diversity summits not recorded: ‘They don’t want any paper trail’

Former Google employees have spoken out about the company’s left-leaning culture after engineer James Damore was fired for writing a memo decrying the tech company’s lack of freedom of thought.

Damore’s 3,000-word missive, titled Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber and widely circulated both internally and online, made a number of controversial statements, ranging from women’s biological suitability for leadership to claims that the firm ostracizes those who hold socially-conservative views and disagree with its affirmative action policies.

Following his firing, in interviews with Professor Jordan Peterson and Stefan Molyneux, Damore discussed details on the secret diversity programs he attended at Google.

“A month and a half ago I went to one of our diversity summits, all of it unrecorded and super secret, and they told me a lot of things that I thought were just not right,” Damore told Peterson. “They were telling us about a lot of these potentially illegal practices that they’d been doing in order to increase diversity… Basically treating people differently based on their race or gender.”

Furthermore, one former Googler, an engineer using the alias “Emmett,” told Breitbart News that his contacts within the company confirmed Google Ad Sales employees’ support of the Sleeping Giants campaign.

Sleeping Giants is a Twitter-based project that urges activists to encourage companies whose ads appear on Breitbart and other right-leaning sites to demand that those ads be removed. In most cases, corporate ad buys are handled through third-party companies rather than directly with specific websites.

A number of friends have privately confirmed this to me,” Emmett said of rumors that Ad Sales workers were asking their clients to pull their ads from conservative sites.

“I know there are efforts to demote anything non-PC, anti-Communist and anti-Islamic terror from search results,” he added, saying that he did not know how successful those efforts had been.

The engineer also said that during his tenure as a Googler, he witnessed attempts to bias the algorithms used to generate related videos on YouTube so that non-PC content would not appear.

“The software could just astroturf your Related Videos section, and you would be none the wiser,” he said.

“Sure, if you know what to look for, perhaps you’d notice. But the vast majority of the viewership would never ever know.

“That’s the whole point of such a disinformation program, right? If you can tell it’s disinformation, you would never ever believe it,” he added.

Emmett also gave credence to the idea of a culture of fear at the internet company that discourages employees with conservative beliefs from sharing them or criticizing liberal politicians.

He further claimed that Google is “leaking people with integrity” who believe in diversity of thought — and said it’s “only a matter of time” before search results begin showing bias against right-leaning news and individuals, including President Trump.

“Everybody knows it’s a quick trip to H.R if you dare say anything against the ‘anti-social’ order. Or sometimes you get punched. I know at least one engineer did get punched in retaliation for something he posted,” Emmett added.

“Bias in support of these discriminatory and hostile behaviors goes pretty much all the way up, management’s just clever enough not to add to the fire (often) but just to let the lower ranks make it happen,” he said.
