A tipsy British mother has been jailed after trying to evade the cops in a 120mph chase that has been described as the “worst dangerous driving” ever seen.
Mom-of-two Megan Nolan was reportedly trying to outrun police after a night of partying in northwestern England in June when her car’s engine finally blew, allowing officers to catch her.
She now faces a year in jail after a judge said it would be “wildly wrong” not to incarcerate her after her “selfish and ludicrous” attempted getaway, during which she shot through two red lights into oncoming traffic.
“You gave no thought to anybody — including yourself or the two children you have who were asleep in bed at home,” Judge Martin Rudland said.
“This was the worst piece of dangerous driving that I have ever witnessed in my 15 years on the bench,” Rudland added.
Although Nolan managed to lose her initial police pursuers, she was spotted by cops further down the highway. Her 20-minute escapade also included careening around residential areas at high speeds before her engine failed.
Prior to her sentencing, she had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, as well as lacking insurance.
Nolan also said that “she was a stupid idiot who was lucky that no one had been hurt,” according to her lawyer, and had panicked when she first saw police lights in her rearview mirror because she had been drinking until the early hours of the morning.
The 24-year-old must pay a fee of around $180 and will serve six months in jail before being released on license, meaning that she can live at home but will likely have to abide by a curfew and wear a monitoring tag.
She has also been banned from driving for three years, given penalty points on her driver’s license and will be required to take an extended driving test before being allowed back on the roads.
